President: Matthew yuan
PictureSenior Portrait of Matthew Yuan
CHESSantiy is expanding its reach to other parts of the country! In August 2018, Matthew Yuan founded the Ohio Chapter of CHESSanity and has served as the Chapter’s President. As Chapter President, Matthew leads CHESSanity's "Adopt-a-School" initiative to reach out and help many high need schools districts and areas in the state of Ohio. Matthew is a senior from Dublin Coffman High School and a highly national ranked competitive chess player.

Biography:

Characterized by his natural leadership skills and friendly persona, Matthew Yuan is an outstanding addition to the CHESSanity team. Although a highly national ranked competitive chess player, Matthew also has a passion for giving back to his community. After initiating and expanding his local library’s popular chess program, Matthew set a new focus to share the game of chess to students all across Ohio. A year later, Matthew has donated hundreds of chess sets and visited multiple schools in his efforts to promote and teach the game of chess.

Top of his class, president of multiple clubs, varsity tennis captain, and assistant concertmaster at his school, there does not seem to be anything Matthew does not excel at. His accomplishments, however, are only rivaled by his kind personality. Matthew is one of the most compassionate people you will ever meet and has a genuine desire to help other people in any way he can. Matthew has initiated tennis tournaments and fundraisers to support the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, dedicated many hours volunteering at his local library and hospital, and acts as a lead sectional rehearsal assistant for the Dublin Youth Symphony Orchestra. These exemplary service accomplishments have earned him both the Gold and Bronze President’s Volunteer Service Awards, and he has been nominated by his city for the Dublin Community Champion Award for three consecutive years.

Some Fun Facts about Matthew:
  1. Favorite genres of music are alternative and classical music
  2. Loves watching basketball, football, and tennis games
  3. Plans to become an engineer
